Ahoy, matey! Rolla’s Sailor Jeans Review

My first order on Shopbop was placed in 2006.

… like, right as it was acquired by Amazon and back when Juicy Couture reigned supreme.

After shopping on Shopbop for over half my life, there are certain times where you’re like:

“Where did this brand even come from?”

Rolla’s is one of those brands for me.

They’re an Australian denim brand that seemingly came out of nowhere.

… and they make jeans in throwback styles with throwback kinda prices.

After constantly seeing them on my “What’s New” daily Shopbop checks, I finally decided to give Rolla’s jeans a whirl…

Rolla’s Jeans Sizing

For reference, I’m 5’5.75” and weigh 115-117 lbs.

… and for comparison, some other sizes I take in jeans:
Acne Studios denim shorts, size 25
APC jeans, size 26
Levi’s, size 25
MOTHER denim, size 24-26
Rag & Bone jeans, size 24-26 and a size 25 for denim shorts
Re/Done Original jeans, size 25 (sometimes a 26)

For Rolla’s Sailor Jeans, in Lily Blue, I took a size 26.

These jeans are great.

The length, perfectly cropped…

The colour, perfectly vintage.

The way they cut the back of these jeans and placed the back pockets so it enhances features that aren’t really there…

Perfect.

Quality

Let’s put Rolla’s Sailor jeans to a “pseudo-scientific lab report” analysis!

For the sake of fun, this denim series is called the “Denim Dance-Off,” because I’m gonna write about everything you wanna know about this pair of jeans and how easy it is to dance in ‘em (tbh, this isn’t important to me, because I don’t dance, I just wanted to make the series an alliteration).

Note: These are my opinions, yours could differ.

1- Do They Flatter Your Bum?
While they’re slightly looser in the back, the way they’re cut definitely can flatter your bum.

2- Is There That (Unfortunate) V-Shape From the Front?
Surprisingly, and thankfully, no.

3- How’s the Overall Quality of Material?
No issues with Rolla’s denim.

4- How Do They Hold Up to Washing? Does the denim wash fade?
No fading and no shrinking — just a few loose threads.

While these jeans are 1% elastane, they don’t stretch too much while wearing and they return to their original shape after washing & air drying.

5- Can You Dance In Them? 5- Can you move in them?
I came up with a new question, because I don’t like dancing.

… but, Rolla’s Sailor jeans are very comfortable and you have lots of space to move around in them — like, they aren’t raw denim where you need to stick your legs out while sitting.

Pros & Cons

Pros
Fit: Basically perfect.
High rise: Get your cropped tops and sweaters out! The Sailor jeans will perfectly complement them.
Comfortable: No pinch at your crotch when you sit in them for hours.
Quality: Sure, there are a few loose threads after washing, but for the under $200 price, I’m willing to overlook that.
Price: It seems close to impossible to get a cool pair of jeans, that are also comfortable, for under $200… but you can with these Rolla’s jeans.

Cons
None.

… but just a note, if you order from them directly, it will take slightly longer to arrive because Rolla’s ships from Australia.

My first pair were ordered from Shopbop, but I loved these Sailor Jeans so much that I ordered a second pair in black from them directly and it took around 3 weeks for them to arrive.

After wearing these jeans through late summer and early fall, I can’t imagine life without them.

Between the cropped fit and throwback look, these jeans are ideal for all seasons.

Sometimes you have to take a risk on the seemingly random things that cross your life.

… especially when they’re under $160.

You can shop Rolla’s Jeans at Nordstrom, Shopbop, or Revolve.
