As a Kate Moss style enthusiast for over half my life, I could write about the magic of Moss until my fingers fall off.
As someone who has purchased just about everything that Kate has ever been involved with, I know my stuff.
Eight years after her last full-on design collaboration (that was widely available) with Equipment, Kate Moss has created her latest collaboration with…
Zara.
My first and last, item from Zara was a dress from two years ago that Kate Moss wore in a campaign that Emmanuelle Alt styled. It was a twofer in terms of stylish ladies that I love, so it felt like a no brainer…
Until I realized how cheap the dress felt.
Since I bought it, it has been hanging in the back of my closet at my parents’ house with the tags still on.
Before I get lost on my anti-fast fashion soapbox, my absolute admiration for Kate’s style stomps that box flat.
I can’t, and won’t, write anything good about Zara, but I can write about the pieces I purchased from Kate Moss x Zara and why…
Kate Moss x Zara Metallic Mini Dress
Purchased in two sizes (medium worked better for me, because I wanted it to look slightly oversized), this dress was obviously inspired by Kate Moss’ 2005 Glastonbury outfit.
Since I already have her x Longchamp Glastonbury bag and x Topshop Glastonbury-inspired bag, I figured this would finish the x Kate Moss collaboration trifecta.
It’s definitely fun.
Definitely cool.
… and definitely poorly made, since the metallic threads are already pulling and I’ve only worn it for these videos.
Kate Moss x Zara Fuax Leather Jacket
This jacket is likely inspired by one that she wore in 2008.
Post-Pete Doherty, Kate’s style flourished in a new way that was slightly jarring at the time, but really good in retrospect.
This jacket that she wore is a prime example of how she was pushing out of her 2004-07 style.
This Fuax (by the way, was this a typo on the site that they just ran with?) Leather Jacket can also be worn as a dress, so I bought it in a size small.
It doesn’t squeak, but it does feel moderately, like, slimy.
“Slick” would likely be a more polite way to describe the material, but it feels cheap and has loads of loose seems, so I’m going with slimy.
Kate Moss x Zara Leopard Print Bucket Bag
Kate originally carried a bag in this style around 2005.
I have no idea who designed it — Miu Miu, Anna Sui, vintage? Again, I’m really not sure.
She also carried a lot of leopard print bags in the 90’s.
Kate’s Zara iteration is made from 100% cow furskin/hair and the lining is 100% polyamide.
This leopard print bucket bag is small, but mighty…
It can hold an iPhone Pro (the Max one too!) and all your essentials.
Kate Moss x Zara Scarf Dress
OK, let me say this first:
When I saw the dress in the preview photos, I was like, “it’s on backwards!”
I couldn’t quite figure out when I saw the inspiration for this dress on her, but when I did, my suspicion was confirmed.
She wore it in 2020 for Kim Jones’ birthday party.
Even in an XS-S, this dress swims on me and is my least favourite.
I would have returned it, however the tag fell off while I was trying it on, so it felt weird to return it.
Not only is it massive, but it feels like someone just threw yards of cheap 72% viscose/28% polyester material over you.
For whatever it’s worth, it does have real pockets though.
Kate Moss x Zara Bracelets
Kate, obviously, has an extensive vintage and new jewelry collection.
My favourite has always been the mess of platinum, or white gold, or silver bangles she wears.
It’s the kind of collection that likely takes years on years to collect.
… but with this set of 10 bracelets from Zara, you can get an instant collection in seconds courtesy of Kate.
Clearly inspired by John Hardy (Kate has modelled for Naked Cashmere, which John Hardy is a minority shareholder of) and David Yurman (remember how Kate basically made David Yurman super cool with her countless campaigns for them?), these Kate Moss Zara bracelets are elastic with two chunkiness levels and two different patterns to liven up your ~arm party~.
At $3.99 a pop, they’re what you’d expect — kinda cheap, but they get the job done.
While I’m wearing them all together in the videos, in reality I like wearing two to bookend a vintage bangle while I wait to find some more real vintage bangles.
Between the sequins and Chinoiserie prints, a lot of this collection had already been done with her x Topshop collaborations in the mid-aughts.
After Kate Moss celebrated her 50th birthday last January, maybe it is true that the only way to move forward, sartorially and personally, is by looking backwards.
… as long as you don’t get stuck in the past, at least.
This Zara collection is now sold-out or on clearance sale, but you can pick it up on eBay if you also want to revisit some Kate Moss sartorial magic.
